FIE new rules for FIE body cord of 2020
Body Wires and Plugs For Urgent Decision at 2019 Congress:
a) The conductive wires of the body wire (the fencers’ personal equipment) must be well
insulated electrically from each other, twisted or joined together, and not be affected by
humidity.
b) This body wire has a connecting plug which must be made of a transparent material, at
each end. In the absence of a security device being fitted to the weapon, a security device
must be fitted to the plug of the body wire
Applications:
For the Junior and Cadets: 2020 Junior and Cadet World Championships (the body wires
with transparent plugs will be provided by the FIE)
For the seniors: Olympic Games 2020 in Tokyo (the body wires with transparent plugs will
be
provided by the FIE)
For all fencers and competitions: compulsory from the start of the 2020-2021 season

The socket inside the epee guard must have two separate holes in the block, so that the two
wires can be passed through the block separately and then connected to the terminals.
Interpretation: if there is only one hole at the back of the socket – both wires may not pass
through, if this is the method to secure the wire, the socket must have two channels – 1
wire each.
